About the Instructor

Ms. Lomeli worked for Los Angeles Superior court for 25 years; 10 years in criminal proceedings and 15 years in civil litigation. She completed a certification program at California State University Los Angeles in the legal interpretation and translation. Soon thereafter, she completed the 40-hour Medical Healthcare Interpreter training program and became nationally certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. Ms. Lomeli also completed the state’s Domestic Violence Advocate Training program to work as an interpreter in Women's Shelter and other women’s advocacy causes. She is currently an independent contractor working as a Certified Healthcare Interpreter™ with extensive experience in video remote, phone and face-to-face interpreting with specialty in simultaneous interpretation. Furthermore, she is an accomplished Instructor/Trainer for the 40-hour Medical Healthcare Interpreter training program. She has contributed and remains as a main consult in the creation of interpreter continued education classes, training and webinars. She is an active member and volunteer for California Healthcare Interpreters Association and member of International Medical Interpreters Association and the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care.

This two-hour online module helps interpreters gain an understanding of the interactions frequently experienced in Workers’ Compensation healthcare encounters and learn to adjust their techniques to fit the needs of these specialized interactions.


Topics covered include an analysis of the difference between communication in typical medical and workers’ comp healthcare appointments, an introduction into most frequent types of injury categorized by profession, the development of specialized vocabulary, note taking and sight translation skills along with strategies to practice to further develop these skills and adjustments of interpreting techniques to fit workers’ compensation healthcare encounters.
