Course Description

This two-hour online program provides interpreters with the concepts and vocabulary needed in encounters related to dental hygiene.

Interpreters will learn:

  • The anatomy and physiology of the mouth and dentition
  • How to interpret during a basic dental exam and cleaning
  • The questions that dental hygienists routinely ask and the signs and symptoms they look for
  • The basics of oral hygiene
  • How to describe the work of the periodontist in treating gum disease with deep cleanings

This course will support your ability to confidently manage dental hygiene interpreting encounters. Exercises include a bilingual audio role-play to help you internalize key dental terminology and interpret this terminology accurately and faithfully. A bilingual glossary of dental hygiene terminology is included in English and Cantonese (Traditional Chinese).
