Course Description
This four hour online module helps trained and already certified medical interpreters gain an understanding of the interactions frequently experienced in Interpreting Crisis Situations: How to really handle Abuse,
Trauma, Rape and Domestic Violence encounters and learn to adjust techniques to fit the needs of these specialized interactions.
Topics covered include an analysis of the difference between communication in Interpreting Crisis Situations: How to really handle Abuse, Trauma, Rape and Domestic Violence encounters appointments, an introduction into most frequent development of specialized vocabulary, note taking and sight translation skills along with strategies to practice to further develop these skills and adjustments of interpreting techniques.
Activities include video presentations, participant presentations, readings, peer discussion both synchronous and asynchronous, self-assessment, and inter-actions via email and Skype with instructors in this hybrid learning model. Learners will complete self-assessed exercises, sight translation and note taking samples to complete the final assessment.
